Lula Romero is a Berlin-based composer of instrumental and electroacoustic music. She holds degrees in Composition, Piano, and Art History. She completed her Master's degree in composition at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague with Gilius van Bergeijk and Cornelis de Bondt. In 2021 she completed her Artistic Doctoral Studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, under the supervision of Clemens Gadenstätter and Dr. Christa Brüstle.
She has been awarded with a Portrait-CD in the serie zeitgenössische Musik (WERGO) of the Deutschen Musikrat, with the GIGA-HERTZ Production prize 2014 by the ZKM and the SWR Experimentalstudio, the Kompositionsstipendium 2024, 2015 and 2012 and the Berlin–Rheinsberger Kompositionpreis 2011, by the cultural affairs department of the city of Berlin and the grants/residences Residence in the Deutsches Studienzentrum Venedig 2017 in Venice of the German Government, and the Künstlerhof Schreyahn 2013 (Germany). She has received the CDMC 2008 composition prize of the Spanish Ministry of Culture and the Honorable Mention in the Fundación autor – CDMC prize 2010.
Her works have been performed by contemporary music ensembles such as, SWR Orchestra, KNM Berlin, Vertixe Sonora Ensemble, Duo Hellqvist/Amaral, Nieuw Ensemble, Kairos Quartett, Zafraan Ensemble, and RadaR Ensemble in international festivals like Donaueschinger Musiktage 2020 und 2022, MATA (New York), SPOR (Aarhus), Mixtur (Barcelona) and the Sonification Festival (Berlin.)
Romero has been a member of the Swiss Ensemble Orbiter as a modular synthesiser and electronic performer since 2023.
